Belarus-Russia Union State foundation treaty amendments suggested

Belarus-Russia Union State foundation treaty amendments suggested

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – The treaty on founding the Union State of Belarus and Russia may be updated, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich on 17 January.

The head of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament noted that parliamentary dimension plays a special role in the unification and harmonization of Belarusian and Russian laws, particularly the adoption of new laws and regulations. In his opinion, the enabling of equal conditions for companies and citizens needs a fresh look. “I believe we will come up with very serious and interesting proposals, which can be considered as some additions and amendments to the Union State foundation treaty,” noted the senator.

“A lot of intensive work will be required because in addition to formulating the ideas on paper we will have to get them approved by partners in the Union State — Russian government agencies,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich. The parliamentarians expect that the Union State Permanent Committee will take an active part in these processes. According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, it would be advisable to get the Eurasian Economic Commission involved, too.

A session of the organizing committee in charge of preparing the fifth Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia took place in the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus on 17 January. The forum will take place in Mogilev Oblast in September.

The Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is designed to assist with the expansion of direct contacts between the countries, including contacts between the legislative and executive branches of government, contacts between business circles. The forum is also supposed to assist with the development of recommendations on improving the legal base with a view to accelerating the development of the Belarusian and Russian economies. The forum is organized under the aegis of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia.
