Belarus’ NPP construction works ahead of schedule

Belarus’ NPP construction works ahead of schedule

MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – The works to construct the Belarusian nuclear power plant are ahead of schedule, Director General of the Russian state corporation for nuclear energy Rosatom Sergei Kiriyenko said at the headquarters of the Belarusian government on 1 February, BelTA has learnt.

Sergei Kiriyenko remembered the past meetings with Belarusian partners and heated debates over the NPP construction deadlines. “It is encouraging that now we are not discussing possible delays, quite the opposite. I can say that we are moving ahead of schedule. The first unit might be finished before the expected time. The tasks we have discussed today are absolutely feasible,” he said. In the summer we plan to start laying concrete in the first unit. Thus, the things that were to be done in October might be done in June.

“A remarkable event took place today - the excavation of the foundation pit for the second power-generating unit,” Sergei Kiriyenko said. He expressed gratitude to his Belarusian partners, the project manager and heads of contracting organizations.

He called the management of the preparation stage of the NPP project exemplary. “We are building nuclear power plants in many countries; we are constructing 19 power-generating units outside Russia. We would like to bring our partners from Bangladesh, Vietnam, for example, here to Ostrovets District, if you do not mind. The work to build infrastructure, roads and railways, and the town for construction workers is worth the highest praise. The work was organized in an excellent way,” Sergei Kiriyenko said.
