Belarus lauded for great contribution to organization of Europe vs USA athletics match

MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) – The Belarusian Athletics Federation has made a great contribution to the organization of the Europe vs United States athletics match, President of European Athletics Svein Arne Hansen told a press conference in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

He stressed that the Belarusian Athletics Federation headed by Vadim Devyatovsky has done a great job to bring the tournament to the capital of Belarus. “The Belarusian Athletics Federation has made a great contribution to the organization of the match. Minsk will host a historic event for the world of athletics. Minsk has an excellent modern facility, Dinamo Stadium, which is one of the best in Europe,” Svein Arne Hansen said.

Toralf Nilsson, the chief coordinator for the Europe vs United States match on behalf of European Athletics, European Athletics Council Executive Board Member, highlighted the high interest of the USA Track & Field (USATF) in the upcoming event. “We had no particular problems while signing the contract. It just took us a lot of time to harmonize individual items, but those were technicalities,” he said.

European Athletics also named the company that will broadcast the upcoming match in Europe. “We signed a contract with Eurovision which will provide signal to ten countries. The U.S. side has not yet announced the TV company which will have the rights to broadcast the event,” Svein Arne Hansen said.

The program of the tournament includes all traditional athletics events and mixed relays. Each discipline will feature four athletes from Europe and from the United States.

The rosters will be announced in mid August.

The Europe vs United States athletics match will be held at Dinamo Stadium, Minsk, 9-10 September and will bring together the best athletes of Europe and the United States of America.
