MINSK, 27 July (BelTA) - Belarus is the only one of the post-Soviet republics that has preserved high-level scientific expertise, Director of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center Mikhail Kovalchuk said during a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 27 July, BelTA has learned.

"I would like to congratulate you. You are the only country from among the post-Soviet republics that has preserved scientific expertise," Mikhail Kovalchuk said. “I should tell you, to the credit of your colleagues, I'm really just amazed and delighted. We deal with a lot of people, we host a great number of delegations from the former Soviet republics, that are independent states today and are members of the CIS or other entities. I must say that it is only Belarus that has preserved science in this form.”

According to him, many research institutions have been preserved and are developing in Belarus, and scientists from both countries are close in spirit, and this serves as a solid basis for effective interaction between them.

“In this context, I have several proposals regarding our assistance," Mikhail Kovalchuk said. In particular, he mentioned the possibility of cooperating in the use of big research complexes of the megascience class. "Today, the success of science, the scientific movement, breakthroughs is associated with big research facilities - so-called megascience. These are big expensive facilities with accelerators, special powerful sources of X-rays, neutrons, laser sources,” the scientist explained.

According to Mikhail Kovalchuk, the Belarusian Planar has recently produced a small batch of original X-ray devices for the Kurchatov Institute. This experience of cooperation was positive. The head of the institute lauded excellent, modern equipment of the enterprises, professionalism of employees.
