Belarus’ KGB chief explains whether preparations for negotiations with Ukraine are in progress

MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko works as much as possible in order to stabilize the situation in the region. Chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus (KGB) Ivan Tertel made the statement on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.

In September Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned he was willing to talk to Vladimir Zelensky. When asked whether the relevant preparations are in progress, Ivan Tertel gave an affirmative answer.

“In this regard we proceed from the belief that it is necessary to meet and find a consensus in this situation. This work is also in progress. Certainly, a lot depends on the Ukrainian side in this regard. Our president works as much as possible in order to stabilize the situation in the region. And we’ve managed to balance interests of the parties in this extremely complicated situation with a tendency towards escalation. And I am convinced that only via quiet and calm negotiations, by looking for a compromise we will be able to resolve this situation,” the KGB chief stressed.
