MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – Belarus is one of Estonia’s most important partners in the region, Estonia’s Ambassador to Belarus Merike Kokajev said at a function held on 20 February to mark Estonia’s Independence Day, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat emphasized intensive and productive cooperation between Belarus and Estonia. “We are working through numerous joint programs to support the aspiration of the Belarusian people to build a strong and stable state. Together we also work to strengthen economic development. Belarus is one of our most important partners in the region,” said Merike Kokajev.

“The independence we gained 102 years ago was a tough fight, and this struggle made us imbued with unchangeable respect for the sovereignty of other countries,” said the ambassador. “That is why we support independent Belarus. We do it always as partners, always on equal terms. A high level of the dialogue between Estonia and Belarus testifies to this fact,” the ambassador added.

The diplomat welcomed a business delegation from Estonia at the event and stressed the importance of developing business diplomacy, trade relations between Belarus and Estonia and also the need to exchange visits.
