Belarus’ food export to China up 15 times over two years

MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – Supplies of Belarusian food products to China have increased from Br10 million to more than Br150 million over the past two years, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Ulakhovich said at the investment forum for companies of Belarus and China which took place in Minsk as part of the Belt and Road initiative, BelTA has learned.

“Our countries have been steadily developing trade and economic relations. The Belarusian export is on the rise. Over the past two years the supplies of Belarusian food supplies have soared from Br10 million to more than Br150 million. We are grateful to our Chinese partners for support in this issue. During the recent visit of the Belarusian head of state to China several more Belarusian companies got the right to supply high-quality food products to the Chinese market. This makes our cooperation stronger,” Vladimir Ulakhovich said.

According to the head of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, over the past two decades Belarus and China have established relations of trust-based strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation thanks to an active and constructive position of the leaders of the two states.

“Today the People's Republic of China is a major economic actor on the global market. Thanks to China, the international economic relations are tilting towards openness and mutual cooperation thus giving us a possibility to overcome flimsy artificial barriers. We in Belarus highly appreciate this position of the People's Republic of China,” Vladimir Ulakhovich said.

With regard to the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, cooperation with Chinese partners, according to him, has always been a priority. “We have agreements with all major business associations of the People's Republic of China, the Council for the Promotion of International Trade, regional associations, China International Chamber of Commerce for the Private Sector and appreciate this cooperation highly. All our regional offices have partners in Chinese provinces,” Vladimir Ulakhovich noted.

Minsk played host to the investment forum for the business communities of Belarus and China within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative on 3 May. On behalf of Belarus the organizers were Bremino Group and the National Agency for Investment and Privatization, on behalf of China – the China Federation of Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs. The aim of the event is to showcase the investment potential of Belarus, present investment projects, establish business contacts with Chinese business, strengthen economic ties with China, and further promote the Belt and Road initiative. Taking part in the forum were representatives of about 30 Chinese companies, including Shimao Group, a property operator headquartered in Hong Kong and Shanghai, and also Golden Wheel Group, a bicycle producer. The Chinese delegation comprises companies representing different sectors: education, bio and smart technologies, tourism, and mechanical engineering, and also industrial and sci-tech park management companies.
