Belarus’ education system in for digital transformation

Belarus’ education system in for digital transformation

MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) – A concept of digital transformation of the education system has been drawn up in Belarus, First Deputy Education Minister Irina Starovoitova told the media ahead of the 2nd international science and technology exhibition & forum Information Technologies in Education (ITE 2018) on 28 November, BelTA has learned.

“The concept of digital transformation is currently under discussion. We hope that it will be launched by the end of the year,” said Irina Starovoitova.

According to her, the concept will introduce new specialties and promote university distance education. “Over the last five years we have seen 30 new IT majors emerge in the system of higher learning. Strengthening the positions of distance education is also an important issue. This is not only about the development of the appropriate infrastructure but also about new methods, new educational approaches to learning. Distance education is not just lecturing on TV. This is a completely different technological approach,” Irina Starovoitova said.

The 2nd international science and technology exhibition & forum Information Technologies in Education (ITE 2018) will be running through 28-30 November. The forum is designed to promote the effective use of information and communication technologies in the education process, to draw public attention to the process of digital transformation of education, and to promote business contacts, expand interregional and international cooperation in education.

The exhibition & forum debuted in Belarus in 2017 and brought together more than 3,000 participants. The organizers are the Education Ministry of Belarus and the Main Information and Analysis Center at the Education Ministry. The main innovative partners are the Hi-Tech Park and the IT Academy.
