Belarus counts on tighter cooperation with UN agencies

Belarus counts on tighter cooperation with UN agencies

MINSK, 15 August (BelTA) – Belarus counts on advancing cooperation with the agencies belonging to the system of the United Nations Organization. The possibility was discussed as First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vasily Matyushevsky met with UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki, BelTA learned from the Belarusian government’s website.

Vasily Matyushevsky stressed: “Since Belarus gained independence, these agencies have taken persistent steps to participate in the accomplishment of many social, economic, ecological, humanitarian, and other tasks. A number of programs geared towards Belarus’ national priorities are being implemented. I am convinced that the UN representative office’s continued orientation towards Belarus’ national priorities represents the foundation of further fruitful cooperation of Belarus and UN agencies.”

The first deputy prime minister of Belarus suggested discussing prospects of Belarus’ cooperation with the United Nations Organization in view of the most topical items on the international agenda. “First of all, I suggest focusing on how the UN’s international partnership and assistance mechanisms can complement Belarus’ efforts in priority development areas,” he said.
