Belarus, China sign over 350 inter-university agreements

MINSK, 13 March (BelTA) – Belarusian and Chinese universities have signed more than 350 agreements on cooperation, Belarus’ Education Minister Igor Karpenko said as he met with Chinese students in Belarus who have excelled in education, research and public activity, BelTA has learned.

The minister stressed the importance of the meeting: “Today’s event is very important for two reasons. Firstly, it is communication with young people, including China students who study here. It is also an opportunity to discuss the prospects for personnel training and exchange views on a wide range of issues that are of interest to foreign students. The event has been arranged as part of the Year of Education of Belarus in China. This is the reason why it is hosted by the National Library, our main treasure of knowledge.”

Belarus and China established diplomatic relations in 1992. Throughout this period, the Belarusian-Chinese relations have been developing rapidity, in a meaningful way. The basis of this interaction has been laid down by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and China President Xi Jinping. “Thanks to their efforts, the two countries have developed a huge potential for mutually beneficial cooperation, including in education. By joint efforts we have bolster the ties and enhanced direct inter-university links. A number of inter-university projects have already been implemented. More joint research projects and educational programs are in progress. We also aim to promote academic exchanges, set up joint educational institutions and scientific laboratories,” Igor Karpenko said.

The event is attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Belarus Cui Qiming, and rectors of the Belarusian universities in which Chinese students are studying.
