Belarus calls on UNHRC to return to strict observance of basic human rights principles

MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) - Belarus recommends the UN Human Rights Council to return to the strict observance of the HRC basic principles such as mutually respectful dialogue, promotion of international cooperation and strengthening of the capacity of the states in implementing the whole set of human rights, Mikhail Khvostov, the head of Belarus’ delegation at the 28th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, said when speaking at the high-level panel of the session, BelTA learned from the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

The head of the Belarusian delegation noted the increasing confrontation in the Human Rights Council and deviation from the universal human rights treaty obligations.

In view of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Victory in World War II and the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations in 2015, Belarus provided an assessment of Belarus’ status in international cooperation on human rights, the press service noted.
