Belarus among world’s leaders in ICT development

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) - Belarus is among the leaders in terms of the development of information and communication technologies, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Houlin Zhao said during a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.

“In recent years Belarus has achieved very significant results. Out of 193 member countries of the Union Belarus is 36th on our ICT development rankings. This position is significantly higher than that of China, Russia and the United States,” Mr Houlin Zhao said.

According to him, the ITU has a telecommunication development plan for the participating countries, which provides for the achievement of certain performance indicators by 2020. With regard to Belarus, all these tasks were met in 2015.

“Belarus is one of the most active and fast developing countries in the field of information and communication technologies. That is why I decided to visit Belarus to see how it has happened,” Mr Houlin Zhao noted.
