Belarus advertised as nodal platform in new Silk Road in Eurasian region

MINSK, 15 May (BelTA) – Belarus is one of the nodal platforms of the new Silk Road in the Eurasian region. Belarusian Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky made the statement during a panel session held as part of the international cooperation forum Belt and Road, BelTA learned from representatives of the Public Relations Department of the Belarusian Economy Ministry.

Speaking about Belarus-China bilateral relations, Vladimir Zinovsky underlined their dynamics and special status — the status of trustful comprehensive strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation. “It allows us to move with confidence to the next stage in our partnership and the coupling of strategies of social and economic development of the two countries,” he said.

“Convenient transport and logistics channels and chains are needed for the sake of advancing practical cooperation within the framework of the Silk Road Economic Belt. To build them, Belarus offers the already available well-developed transport infrastructure of motorways and railways as well as large-scale infrastructure and logistics networks, which are being created. Our country is located in between two huge integration associations — the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union. Besides, Belarus has been a member of the Eurasian Economic Union since the very start of this integration process. If priorities are set correctly, the existing regional mechanisms will mutually complement and enrich each other,” noted Vladimir Zinovsky.

According to the minister, the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone should play the key role in the joint economic development of countries in the region. The park will advance mutually beneficial cooperation of the countries to new historic heights. It will become a platform and a favorable environment for implementing investment projects meant to create high-tech enterprises in cutting-edge branches of the economy. “By setting up the international industrial park, by opening it to investors from all over the world, we shift the focus of attention from individual development towards joint efforts meant to secure prosperity of the countries located along the Belt and Road,” he concluded.

With confidence Belarus supports the initiative to advance cooperation in free trade as part of the One Belt, One Road concept, which participants of the summit are expected to adopt. “Our joint investment projects and intentions fully match its trend,” explained Vladimir Zinovsky.

As part of the forum events the Belarusian economy minister took part in a press conference for leading Chinese mass media. Representatives of the Belarusian Economy Ministry mentioned the strong interest of Chinese reporters in the China-Belarus industrial park project, particularly due to the recent media trip of Chinese reporters to Belarus. The Belarusian delegation in China is expected to sign agreements on allowing a number of Chinese companies to operate in the industrial park. The Belarusian economy minister is expected to meet with top executives of the Chinese corporation ZTE and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
