Belarus admired for its attitude to history

MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) - Belarus' attitude to its history deserves admiration, Speaker of the National Council of Slovakia Andrej Danko told journalists following a meeting with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.

According to Andrej Danko, during the meeting with the president they discussed the importance of preserving historical heritage among other things. Andrej Danko was impressed with a visit to the State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History. “I admire the way Belarus preserves the history,” he said. “I am happy that Belarus commemorates not only Belarusian but also Slovak soldiers.”

He also pointed out the cultural and historical unity of Belarus and Slovakia. “Our nations are very close indeed.  The prospects for cooperation are huge. We can learn a lot from each other,” Andrej Danko said. He added that he would like to propose renovating the museum dedicated to World War II in his country following Belarus’ example, but he is not sure whether such a proposal finds support.

Speaker of the National Council of Slovakia Andrej Danko invited the Belarusian president to take part in the events timed to the 75th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising against fascists.
