Belarus’ achievements in gender equality, social support noted

MINSK, 12 January (BelTA) – A UN expert mission to assess the progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, that Belarus hosted in late November-early December 2017, took note of the country's achievements in gender equality, maternity and childhood, social support, Marianna Shchetkina, Deputy Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, National Coordinator for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, said as she met with representatives of the foreign diplomatic corps on 12 January, BelTA has learned.

The experts of the mission focused on the assessment of the starting positions and the current activities in Belarus aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

“During this work, the experts noted the achievements of our country in gender equality, maternity and childhood, social support, and generally the coherence of the SDG efforts and development policy of the state,” Marianna Shchetkina said.

The UN experts are expected to present the roadmap for Belarus. “We are now looking forward to this document and remain committed to continue our cooperation with the UN agencies in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,” Marianna Shchetkina noted.
