Andreichenko: Belarusian economy is doing well amid difficult conditions

MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) - The national economy is demonstrating positive dynamics amid quite difficult conditions, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said as he opened the sixth session of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus of the seventh convocation, BelTA has learned.

"It is extremely important that the national economy is demonstrating positive dynamics amid quite difficult conditions, which confirms the effectiveness of the approaches we have chosen. Our task is to consistently improve the economic climate. As the time has shown we should make an emphasis on national business. At the same time, we need to think about how to preserve labor collectives and competencies. Today, in fact, this means the protection of economic sovereignty," Vladimir Andreichenko said.

According to him, it is in this vein that MPs should approach the bills on licensing, investments, economic societies, road transportation, insolvency and a number of other documents expected by the business community. "However, if foreign investors agree to work in the Belarusian market honestly, respecting the requirements of a socially oriented economy, we are always ready to meet them halfway.  We need to give a serious consideration to the topic of investment together with the Hi-Tech Park and the Great Stone Industrial Park, our largest innovation clusters,” the speaker said. “The task of creating a stable business environment should be taken into account when preparing a package of budget and tax bills. Support for business in the country should be provided without compromising the most important social programs. "

Vladimir Andreichenko stressed that a strong social policy has always been a signature style of the Belarusian state. "We must preserve it, improving not only financial and economic mechanisms, but also methods of combating activities aimed at undermining the national economy. We need to act proactively. One of these preventive measures should be the establishment of criminal liability for calls to impose sanctions against Belarus. Extremists and their handlers should be aware that they will not be able to harm Belarus and its people with impunity. We must focus on ensuring the economic and social well-being of honest and law-abiding citizens: workers who create the wealth of our country, students, families who raise children, and people who, for various reasons, need state assistance," he said.

To accomplish this task, MPs will need to consider the documents on the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and their social integration, bills designed to ensure peace, order and security in the country.

"A bill to amend the Code on Culture has been submitted to the House of Representatives. Its public discussion is already getting underway. MPs should take an active part in it, since this document is as important as the new Education Code. Disputes about what the Belarusian school should look like still continue. But the main lesson we learned from last year's situation is that education cannot be understood only as a sector of paid services. As the president emphasized, this is a stronghold of national statehood. So, we must preserve the role of the state in such a strategically important sector for the future of Belarus. We are not rejecting private initiative or advanced foreign practices that help make Belarusian education more competitive. But we must understand that all private institutions or services should act strictly in sync with the state policy,” the speaker of the House of Representatives stated.
