Ambassador: I hope Moldova will maintain good relations with Belarus

MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) - The relations between Moldova and Belarus are developing on a positive note, outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Moldova to Belarus Victor Sorocean told the media after his meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat expressed hope for a sound policy in the further development of relations between the two states and confidence that cooperation would continue in a positive way.

The ambassador stressed that there was some sadness in connection with the fact that he was leaving Belarus. At the same time, he stressed that he was happy to work in Belarus. “I have worked here for more than four years, traveled around the country and got familiar with the Belarusian people, as well as the economy and enterprises in Belarus. It all leaves a good impression,” Viktor Sorocean said.

The ambassador praised the country's leadership that cares about people. “The Belarusian authorities are not just engaged in the arrangement of the state, but are developing a full-fledged, independent country.”

He shared his impressions of his meeting with Aleksandr Lukashenko: “As for the meeting with the president, it always makes a very strong impression, it is a very confident man, he knows what he is doing.”

The ambassador emphasized: “Our relations with Belarus are built on a very positive note. Over 30 years of independence, we have always felt support and care about our country. We greatly appreciate Belarus’ experience. We have set up a lot of joint ventures. There are more than 90 agreements and documents that have been concluded between our countries.”

In his words, last year the two countries signed an important document on mutual recognition of employment record for citizens. Now the two states are working to sign agreements on readmission and on mutual recognition of driving licenses.

Belarus and Moldova are also currently working on setting up a joint venture to assemble elevators, MAZ buses in Moldova. “I am sure these projects will develop further,” he noted.

“I would very much like our countries to be very attentive to each other in terms of statements, decision-making during the current difficult period with a lot of turbulence worldwide. These are the moments that can affect the fate of our people. So I really hope for a sound policy, for common sense and that the friendship between our countries, the relations between our countries will remain at the same level as it is today, and maybe even improve. There is always something to improve. I wish the Belarusian people prosperity. I wish your country good development and success,” Viktor Sorocean stressed.

“Please, always remember that the Moldovans are friends for you and they will always support you if you need it,” the head of the diplomatic mission said.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 19 November 1992. Since then more than 90 treaties and agreements regulating the issues of legal relations have been concluded between the two states. The political dialogue and bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Moldova have been progressively developing.
