MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – The possibility of introducing administrative penalties for breaking self-isolation rules is under consideration. Belarusian Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik made the statement during a YouTube stream hosted by the National Press Center on 8 April, BelTA has learned.

The healthcare minister stated that the percentage of people, who choose to ignore recommendations of medics, remains rather high. “This is why the introduction of administrative penalties for breaking self-isolation rules is under consideration now. Once the decision is made, the necessary documents will be published,” he said.

According to Vladimir Karanik, people, who are told to follow the self-isolation routine, will be informed in person about the rules they have to observe and about the penalties they may face for breaking these rules.

At present there is no legal way to fine violators of the self-isolation rules or punish them in some other way. “We still implore people to do their civic duty. We want them to understand the degree of their responsibility. They may be a threat to their friends and families,” the Belarusian healthcare minister noted.
