Ablameiko: Pakistan PM’s visit to Belarus will encourage inter-university cooperation

Ablameiko: Pakistan PM’s visit to Belarus will encourage inter-university cooperation

MINSK, 11 August (BelTA) – The visit of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Belarus will encourage the universities of the two states to step up their cooperation, Rector of the Belarusian State University (BSU) Sergei Ablameiko told journalists on 11 August, BelTA has learned.

He explained that the BSU signed memorandums of mutual understanding with the Foreign Service Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan and the Comsats Institute of Information Technology during the official visit of the Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Sergei Ablameiko said that a large delegation from the Pakistani Education Ministry came to Belarus last week. “And we have just welcomed a delegation of rectors of Pakistani universities,” he added.

Belarus is interested in developing cooperation in scientific research and organizing student and teacher exchange programs with Pakistani colleagues. Sergei Ablameiko believes that all the necessary preconditions are in place. Besides, he pointed out that he had already been to Pakistan. “I got familiar with their scientific system and was impressed. Members of the Pakistani delegation also got great impressions in Belarus,” the rector emphasized. However, the cooperation in education and science between Belarus and Pakistan is still quite limited. For example, the BSU has only a few students from Pakistan.

Sergei Ablameiko believes that in the light of Pakistan’s great potential, Belarus could welcome many more students from that country. The Belarusian side, for its part, wants young citizens of Belarus to receive higher education in Pakistan. “We will work to step up our cooperation in all fields. I mean cooperation in education, science, and culture,” the BSU rector stressed.
