Youth project to celebrate Belarus’ liberation anniversary to kick off in Minsk on 11 June

MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) – The youth project Marathon 75 timed to the 75th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders and the Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War will kick off at the Minsk Hero City Memorial on 11 June, BelTA learned from the BRSM Youth Union.

The marathon will run around places of military glory till 3 July. Participants will visit Belarusian towns and cities and hold Belarus Remembers dialogues, organize Flowers of Great Victory open air events with themed, interactive, and photo zones, other creative activities. The Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History has also prepared the traveling exhibition "Liberation of Belarus" which will go on display in every place the marathon will stop at. The exhibition will demonstrate a long challenging path of the Red Army soldiers and partisans towards Belarus’ liberation.

The symbolic activities of the BRSM project will include creating a canvass “Belarus Remembers” and compiling an album “Belarus Remembers. Dear Faces of Victory”. Participants of the project are collecting information about people from their native regions – who they were, where they fought, which deeds they did – to create regional Liberation Canvasses. All this information will then be compiled into a single national canvass. The canvass will represent a 6x12 meter large Belarusian flag with names of Belarus-born Heroes of the Soviet Union and full cavaliers of the Order of the Fatherland, participants of the Great Patriotic War. The canvass will be unveiled during a festive procession on 3 June.

Participants of the marathon will also gather information for the “Belarus Remembers. Dear Faces of Victory” album. It will feature young people, their grand- and great-grandfathers who fought in the war. Every Belarusian citizen may contribute to the project. The 75-sheet album will contain photos of the most prominent heroes. Both the canvass and the album will be handed over to the Museum of the Great Patriotic War History on 3 July.

The BRSM is organizing Marathon 75 in cooperation with the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus and the Museum of the Great Patriotic War History. This event is part of the national patriotic project “Flowers of Great Victory”.
