Youth of Belarus, Russia to go on trip along Western Dvina

VITEBSK, 11 August (BelTA) – The 6th oblast water tour will take place along the Western Dvina from Vitebsk to Beshenkovichi on 11-13 August, BelTA learned from the Vitebsk Oblast Committee of the BRSM Youth Union.

“It is for the sixth time that the youth of companies and organizations of the oblast, members of the BRSM Youth Union will go on a water trip. However, they will be joined by a delegation from Smolensk Oblast for the first time. The route is changed every year. We are trying to study different water systems. This time it will go along the Western Dvina, the route of two wars from Vitebsk to Beshenkovichi,” First Secretary of the BRSM Oblast Committee Viktor Glushin explained.

The event will kick off will an official meeting at the Komsomolsky Park. The first day will see a journey to the village of Yakutino, Vitebsk District where participants with compete in darts, volleyball, brain-ring and enjoy an evening bonfire. They will spend the next day on water with a lunch break in the village of Bokishevo. In the evening the travelers will set up a tent camp and take part in a number of competitions. On the closing day of the trip the estate in Zdravnevo will host a ceremony to awards the winners and participants of the contests.

The trip will make part of the research carried out by historians and enthusiasts. The research is based in the book of Vitebsk local historian Aleksei Sapunov “The Western Dvina River” (1893) that contains a detailed description of the biggest river in the oblast.
