Youth forum in Brest to bring young people from five countries

BREST, 7 April (BelTA) – An international youth forum of sister cities will be held in Brest from 8 to 12 April, BelTA has learned.

The event has been organized on the initiative of the Brest City Hall and the city committee of the BRSM Youth Union as part of the Year of Youth events and to celebrate Brest as Belarus’ Capital of Culture. According to the deputy head of the department for ideology, culture and youth affairs of the Brest City Hall, Tatyana Kozhanova, invitations were sent to all Brest’s sister cities, and these are 33 cities. To date 30 people confirmed their participation. These are representatives of Russia, Germany, Poland, Ukraine and the Netherlands. In particular, young people will come from Russia’s Ryazan, Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Tagil, Ukraine’s Ivano-Frankovsk and Lutsk, Poland’s Biala Podlaska, Dutch Coevorden, the Union of Communities of the German Mittleres Schussental.

The program of the forum is divided into three blocks. This is the introduction to cultural and tourism potential of the region. The guests will see the attractions of Brest and also the Kamenets Tower, a unique specimen of the defensive architecture of the late 13th century, and visit the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park. One of the key items on the program is the conference Peace for the Sake of Life on Earth dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. The conference will be held in the small hall of the Belarus cinema house on 10 April. The participants of the youth forum are also set to meet with the city officials.

"The forum has become a platform for the exchange of experience in youth affairs. In this regard, each of the participating cities will make a presentation. We hope that during these five days, the participants will make new contacts and outline the prospects for cooperation in the field of youth policy in the future,” Tatyana Kozhanova said.
