Young Belarusian filmmakers to compete in Kinosprint contest

MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) – The contest Kinosprint to be held from June till October 2015 will gather talented beginning directors, script writers, and cameramen of Belarus, chairman of the organizing committee of the contest, deputy director of the Social Cinema Workshop Konstantin Vorobei told journalists on 3 June, BelTA has learned.

The contest for young filmmakers will be held for the first time. It will be themed around environmental issues. Short films of any genre are eligible for submission. Applications will be open from 4 till 26 June. There are no qualification restrictions and age limits, but the participants should be at least 18 years old. First of all, the organizers expect applications from teams that include a director, a cameraman, and a producer. A sound operator and a script writer will also be an advantage. Individual applications will also be considered, and such participants will be divided into teams. Ten teams chosen to present their portfolio will be announced on 1 July.

The teams will start working on the projects with the help of specialists in early July. On 18 July they will defend their projects. Only five of them will stay in the contest. The creativity of the idea will be the main criterion, the organizers stressed.

The remaining five teams will present their projects to the jury on 8 August. Three of them will be provided with equipment, and one with a special car.

The film shootings will be conducted from 10 till 31 August. The final results of the contest will be announced in October. The best work will get the Kinosprint statuette. The works of the finalists will be screened at one of the cinema houses of Minsk in October 2015. The organizers of the contest also have plans to promote the films abroad submitting them to different festivals. After a year of festivals, the works by the young Belarusian film-makers will be presented to the Belarusian audience.

Konstantin Vorobei noted that the organizers expect to hold the contest annually as it has drawn great interest of Belarusian cinematographers. The contest will contribute to the development of Belarus' film industry and make its more competitive.
