Writers of Belarus, China to discuss joint projects in Minsk

First Deputy Chairperson of the Belarusian Union of Writers Yelena StelmakhMINSK, 27 September (BelTA) – Belarusian authors are set to discuss the implementation of joint projects with a delegation of the Shanghai Writers Association during a meeting in Minsk on 27 September, BelTA learned from First Deputy Chairperson of the Belarusian Union of Writers Yelena Stelmakh.

The Chinese delegation comprises Vice President of the Shanghai Writers Association Wang Wei, authors, and prose writers. The meeting with the Chinese colleagues is expected to become another milestone in the creative cooperation between Belarusian and Chinese authors and will help the two nations learn more about each other’s cultures.

During a roundtable discussion in the Minsk Writers Center, the Belarusian authors will present translations of books by Chinese writers who are well-known among Belarusian readers. Some Belarusians are actively translating Chinese literature into their native language, among them the Belarusian state award-winning poet Nikolai Metlitsky, and also poets Tatyana Sivets, Valeria Radun, Yulia Aleichenko. A series of books dedicated to China and issued by the publishing house Zviazda will be presented to the Chinese guests.

The sides are expected to touch upon other avenues of cooperation that unite the authors of both countries. In particular, they are set to talk about book projects carried out by Chinese students studying in the Belarusian State Academy of Arts.

The Chinese delegation will also visit the village of Stankovo to learn more about the heroic past of the Belarusian people at the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War. The Chinese writers will share their impressions about the visit to Belarus with their readers.
