Wreaths on behalf of Belarus president laid at memorials in Germany

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – Wreaths on behalf of the Belarusian president have been laid at the former concentration camp memorials in Germany, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The press release of the press service reads that on 16-17 April the representatives of the Belarusian Embassy took part in the wreath laying ceremonies on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the Battle of the Seelow Heights (Seelow, Brandenburg), the liberation of the concentration camps Ravensbruck, Sachsenhausen (Brandenburg), Buchenwald (the Free State of Thuringia), and Bergen-Belsen (Lower Saxony).

“Belarus Charge d'Affaires in Germany Segei Malinovsky laid the wreaths on behalf of the Belarusian president at the monument to fallen Soviet soldiers in Furstenberg, commemorative plaques in the memorial complexes Ravensbruck and Sachsenhausen, and major monuments to the victims of these concentration camps,” BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On the invitation of the organizers, the representatives of the diplomatic mission took part in the mourning rallies near the monument to Soviet soldiers in Furstenberg and at the Soviet War Cemetery in Horsten emphasizing the contribution of the Belarusian nation to defeating fascism. The commemorative events were attended by the representatives of federal and state administrations, political parties and public organizations, the diplomatic corps, mass media, organizations of former prisoners of concentration camps from Belarus and other countries.
