Wreath on Belarus’ behalf placed at Tomb to Unknown Soldier in Moscow

MOSCOW, 4 May (BelTA) – A wreath on behalf of the Belarusian embassy was placed at the Tomb to the Unknown Soldier near the Kremlin Wall in Moscow on 4 May, BelTA has learned.

The ceremony marked the 71st anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Partaking in it was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko, State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, Russian MPs, representatives of integration bodies, Belarusian diaspora and diplomats. Flower baskets were also placed at the memorials Minsk Hero City and Brest Hero Fortress erected at the Alley of Hero Cities in the Alexander Garden. The solemn ceremony was completed with the performance of the guards of honor team and the military orchestra.

“Traditionally in the run-up to Victory Day we pay the tribute to the memory at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It was he who restored peace, gave us peaceful skies above,” Igor Petrishenko told reporters. The Ambassador stressed that the Soviet people paid a big price for the victory. “Standing here, at the Tomb to the Unknown Soldier, you understand that there is nothing more valuable than peace,” he said.
