Works by Belarusian artists, sculptors on display at Grand Palais in Paris

MINSK, 25 November (BelTA) – For the first time, a pavilion with works by Belarusian artists and sculptors has been set up at the Grand Palais des Champs-Elysees in Paris, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in France.

The Grand Palais is hosting the annual art fair Art en Capital founded 60 years ago. The event is held under the patronage of the President of France and the French Minister of Culture. The fair has brought together over 2,000 artists and sculptors from 40 countries. The delegation of South Korea is the main guest of this year’s event. Belarus, Spain, Canada, China, Sweden, and Japan arranged their pavilions at the exhibition area. Works by eleven modern Belarusian artists and sculptors, including Viktor Alshevsky, Yuri Anushko, Anna Belousova, Yelena Ventriyon-Makarevich, Larisa Zhuravovich, Maxim Petrul, Sergei Portenkov, Pavel Semchenko, Alexander Slepov, Ales Falei, and Valentina Shoba, are on display at the Belarusian pavilion.

The pavilion has been arranged by the Belarusian Embassy in France with the support of the National Art Museum of Belarus, the Belarusian Cultural Center in France, and opera singer Arkady Volodos who was born in Belarus and has been living in Paris for more than 35 years.

The opening of the pavilion was attended by Ambassador of Belarus to France Pavel Latushko who emphasized the importance of Belarus’ participation in the prestigious art fair and noted that the country has long painting and sculpture traditions. Belarus is proud of such artists and sculptors as Ivan Khrutsky, Walenty Wankowicz, Marc Chagall, Leon Bakst, Mikhail Savitsky, Zair Azgur, and Andrei Bembel. The art fair Art en Capital will run through 29 November.

The Grand Palais is a large exhibition hall and museum complex. It was built in 1897 as part of the preparation works for the Universal Exposition of 1900.
