Women account for nearly 50% of managerial staff at Belarus’ enterprises and organizations

MINSK, 2 May (BelTA) –  In the Year of the Belarusian Woman, the National Statistical Committee has released data on women’s employment and their involvement in the country’s decision-making processes, BelTA reports.

“Beyond their roles as homemakers, Belarusian women show competence and professionalism in various sectors,” the National Statistical Committee emphasized. The employment rate for women of working age (16 to 58 years) is 85.6%, compared to 84.5% for men. For every 100 employed men, there are 93 women under the age of 30, and 115 women aged 45 to 54.

The highest proportion of women is observed in the service sector, where they account for 74.2% of the workforce. Some 41.8% of working women have a higher education; 65.9% of women have a second job. Women account for 41.6% of the country’s entrepreneurs.

Belarusian women make up 49.1% of the leadership roles in the country’s enterprises and organizations. In local government bodies, they hold 47.7% of positions. While in 1997 women made up only 14% of parliament, by 2025 that share had risen to 32.7%.

Belarusian women do a lot of volunteer work: 47.7% help animals, 13.4% help their communities, and 10.3% provide legal advice, medical assistance, and free training sessions and classes.

The average age of Belarusian women is 44.6 years, and the average age at the birth of their first child is 27.6 years. For the first time, Belarusian women decide to marry at an average age of 26.7 years.
