Wildlife research center set to open in Belovezhskaya Pushcha

Wildlife research center set to open in Belovezhskaya Pushcha

BREST, 16 June (BelTA) – Head of the Belarus President Property Management Directorate Yuri Nazarov and Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Pyotr Parkhomchik visited the international wildlife research center currently under construction in the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park on 16 June, BelTA has learned.

The construction of the center is envisaged by the national park’s development concept. Work began in the spring of 2025. A separate two-story building has been erected on the territory of Belovezhskaya Pushcha. It will house laboratories for environmental and ecological monitoring, storage facilities for research samples of flora and fauna, as well as administrative offices.

“The building is intended to accommodate Belovezhskaya Pushcha researchers and support scientific studies. It is designed for 30 permanent staff members and six invited specialists from anywhere in Belarus or abroad,” Deputy Director General of the national park Yuri Roi said. Construction has entered its final stage. The facility is expected to open in early July.

According to Yuri Roi, the establishment of the wildlife research center will strengthen existing scientific programs and create opportunities for launching new ones. “This is an opportunity to bring the science of Belovezhskaya Pushcha to a fundamentally new level and gain greater independence in research activities without relying on the National Academy of Sciences. In the future, we will also be able to train our own specialists who could live and work nearby,” he emphasized.
