WHO mission to issue preliminary findings on coronavirus situation in Belarus on 11 April

WHO mission to issue preliminary findings on coronavirus situation in Belarus on 11 April

MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) - The WHO mission will issue preliminary findings on the coronavirus situation in Belarus on Saturday, 11 April, representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) to Belarus Batyr Berdyklychev said during a meeting in the parliament, BelTA has learned.

A WHO expert mission is working in Belarus these days. It will take a closer look at the situation and the measures being taken. “On Saturday, they will be able to issue preliminary findings and provide recommendations,” Batyr Berdyklychev said.

“We keep in very close contact with the Healthcare Ministry. In many ways, our vision and understanding of the development of the coronavirus situation coincide," the WHO representative said.

Batyr Berdyklychev agreed with the forecast of the Healthcare Ministry on the COVID-19 peak in Belarus in late April-May. “How big it is and how many patients, especially ICU patients, there are will depend on the measures undertaken today,” he said. In his words, it is of high importance to continue social distancing efforts, detecting and treating people with COVID-19 and tracking their contacts. Additional social distancing measures might be needed.
