MINSK, 4 July (BelTA) – Citizens of Turkmenistan who participated in the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders were honored with commemorative medals, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Ashgabat.

“Combat brotherhood of Belarusians and the Turkmen who fought shoulder to shoulder against the invaders was a special page in the chronicle of the Great Patriotic War. Five Turkmenistan citizens were awarded with the highest title of Hero for courage and heroism they showed in the battles for Belarus. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the German-fascist invaders, nine Turkmen citizens who took part in the Bagration Operation in 1944 to liberate Belarus were honored with the commemorative medal,” the embassy said.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Turkmenistan Oleg Tabanyukhov presented the commemorative medals and letters of congratulation to the veterans residing in Ashgabat.

The ceremony was organized by the local authorities with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
