Victory Day-themed campaign launched in Belarus

Victory Day-themed campaign launched in Belarus

MINSK, 10 May (BelTA) – The BRSM Youth Union has announced the launch of the youth marathon “Belarus Remembers. Dear Faces of Victory” dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders. The campaign aims to compile an album of photos of grand- and great-grandfathers who liberated Belarus and won the Great Patriotic War, First Secretary of the BRSM Youth Union Central Committee Dmitry Voronyuk told BelTA.

“During the commemorative event at the Victory Monument in Minsk on 9 May, the BRSM members presented their project to the Belarusian president and showed him the Belarus Remembers album featuring the photos and stories about their family members who fought in the Great Patriotic War. The president commended the initiative and encouraged the youth to preserve the memory of all the war participants for future generations,” Dmitry Voronyuk said.

The youth campaign to collect photos and stories of war heroes will run across the routes of Belarus’ liberation from May to July. “Every Belarusian family carefully preserves black-and-white photos of their ancestors who liberated Belarus from fascists as well as stories about their heroic deeds. The participants of the campaign will drive along the routes of Belarus’ liberation in a minibus with the logo of the campaign. The minibus will be fitted with necessary equipment to scan collected photos and prepare them for the album," Dmitry Voronyuk noted.

“The album will consist of 75 sheets with photos of Belarus’ defenders from every part of the country. The photos for the printed version of the album will be selected on a competitive basis while the digital version will include them all. I am sure that talented Belarusian youth – the president’s fund scholarship holders, winners of international competitions and olympiads - will take part in the campaign. We plan to finish the marathon by 3 July. The closing event will be held in the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History. We intend to hand the album ‘Belarus Remembers. Dear Faces of Victory’ over to the museum,” he said.

“Children and grandchildren of the victors remember and honor the deeds of their family members. The victors' blood still runs through our veins. So remembering the heroes is not a duty. It is an inalienable part of us,” Dmitry Voronyuk added.
