GRODNO, 2 February (BelTA) - Invitations to take part in the 11th Festival of National Cultures due in Grodno on 4-5 June have been sent to representatives of the cities of the United States, Chairman of the Grodno City Hall Mechislav Goi told reporters.

"We sent invitations to the vice mayors of Los Angeles and Sacramento, and also representatives of Rancho Cordova in California with which we recently signed an agreement on friendship and partnership. The Americans showed an interest in the festival and gave a tentative consent to attend the event in Grodno,” Mechislav Goi said when commenting on the visit of the Belarusian delegation to the United States and Canada.

"We had several meetings to discuss cooperation in the field of culture and education. In the future the Yanka Kupala university of Grodno and the university from Vancouver will develop joint programs on student exchange. We gave the Slavonic center in Sacramento the books in the Belarusian language. They promised to open two Belarusian language classes and asked for help with textbooks and teachers,” the Grodno Mayor said.

The Belarusians had several business meetings with representatives of the mayor's offices in San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles and Vancouver, organized a presentation of the opportunities of trade, economic and cultural cooperation.
