Unconquered Belarus exhibition opens in Moscow

MOSCOW, 4 May (BelTA) – The exhibition Unconquered Belarus was opened in Moscow at premises of the Business and Cultural Complex of the Embassy of Belarus in Russia on 4 May, BelTA has learned.

The exhibition uses assets of the Belarusian State Museum of History of the Great Patriotic War. During the opening ceremony Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko said: “Victory over fascism was not just one of the greatest events of the past. It is a source of our pride and strength of spirit. It is this victory that has shaped the image of the modern Belarusian nation to a large degree.”

The Ambassador reminded that during World War Two Belarus suffered greatest among all the former ex-USSR republics. “Although occupied and ruined, our land remained unconquered,” he stressed. “A great and formidable force — the nation — rose to fight the brown plague. The nationwide resistance movement became went down in history as a unique and unprecedented phenomenon.”

The main purpose of the exhibition is to demonstrate the Belarusian nation’s contribution to victory over the Nazi. The exhibition highlights defensive battles that occurred in Belarus in the summer of 1941, the Nazi occupation regime, the underground resistance movement and the partisan movement from inception to an all-out fight against the invaders.

The exhibition features documents and photos, underground prints, personal belongings of war participants. Items found at the site of the death camp Trostenets are also on display. “I am sure that by getting familiar with the exposition you will once again feel the deeds of our fathers and forefathers,” said Nikolai Skobelev, Director of the Belarusian State Museum of History of the Great Patriotic War, as he presented the exhibition.
