MINSK, 30 September (BelTA) – The train “UN70 Belarus Express: towards partnership for development” will depart from the Minsk railway station on 23 October on a week-long journey around Belarus, BelTA learned from the UN public information department in Belarus.

In 2015, the world will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the United Nations. The commemoration of UN70 in Belarus will be centered around a number of communication and outreach activities, implemented by the Government of Belarus in partnership with the United Nations and will conclude with a flagship joint initiative “UN70 Belarus Express”. It will involve Government of Belarus, UN staff, representatives of UN Member states and wide range of stakeholders, including civil society, private sector partners, artists, youth, representatives of vulnerable groups among others travelling across Belarus on a special train during 23-30 October 2015.

The UN-Belarus Express provides a chance to raise awareness about the new global development agenda to promote Belarus abroad and highlight investment potential and tourist attractions.

The organizations of the UN system will also take part in the project. They will be able to discuss approaches to the joint implementation of the new framework program, and create a fertile ground for new partnerships and develop new ideas. Thus, the project will provide platform for interaction with regional and local authorities, beneficiaries, the media and representatives of the business community, youth, vulnerable groups, and religious organizations. The initiative will involve the UN Goodwill Ambassadors, and also artists who will take part in joint cultural events, art exhibitions, sports, cultural and educational activities.

Ceremonies to plant Peace Trees will be held in every region of Belarus. Exhibitions and concerts are planned in honor of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. On the route from Grodno to Brest (25 October) the Model United Nations will be held on board of the train to discuss the new sustainable development goals.
