GRODNO, 27 January (BelTA) – The Druskininkai-Grodno transboundary friendship marathon will take place on 12 July, BelTA has learned from the sport and tourism department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee.

The registration for participation in the project has already started on the official website of the marathon. Citizens of Italy, Norway and Germany were among the first ones to sign up. “The marathon is especially interesting since it is the only one that covers the territory of both countries, Belarus and Lithuania. The upcoming marathon will mark the 10th anniversary of the event,” remarked the sport and tourism department of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee.

The marathon covers a distance of 42.195km. The track of the marathon was measured and certified by World Athletics. This year the runners will start from the center of Druskininkai and traditionally finish at the FC Neman stadium in Grodno. The winners will be determined both in the overall standings and different age categories. The runners will be crossing the border without getting stopped. The border and customs controls will be carried out at the starting and finishing points of the marathon.

The Druskininkai-Grodno marathon will become a part of a unique running project. The so-called Grodno Running League brings together the most interesting and highest-ranked races of the season that take place in the region throughout the year. During the running season the athletes and teams will score points after each race to compete for the Grand Prix in several categories: final standings, team standings and others.
