Tourists from almost 50 countries visit Brest recreation zone visa-free

BREST, 13 June (BelTA) – Since the start of 2018 more than 5,000 tourists have visited Brest recreation zone in Belarus visa-free, BelTA learned from head of the tourism sector of the sports and tourism department of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Denis Nikityuk.

As of 12 June, visitors from nearly 50 countries made use of the opportunity to cross the border visa-free. The recreation zone was visited by 5,049 foreigners, about 90% of whom were Poles. Citizens of Lithuania, Latvia, and Germany also actively visit the zone.

“On average, visitors spend more than three days in Brest Oblast. This means that guests are interested not only in excursions. They take part in various mass events, go shopping. Tax Free services are provided by about 40 stores that sell jewelry, cosmetics and perfume, clothes, shoes, textiles,” Denis Nikityuk noted. Moreover, agreements on VAT free sales have been concluded by the Brest Central Department Store and Glasswork Neman.

Foreigners visit both Brest and other areas of the oblast. For example, every fourth visitor of Brest recreation zone goes to see Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park. Travel agencies offer combined tours to its clients. Such tours include a journey from Brest to Kamenets, with stops in Belovezhskaya Pushcha and Pruzhany District.

“We are currently working on promotional campaigns for certain groups of tourists, primarily in business, medical and recreation tourism. We will develop special programs to include ecological paths and reserves,” Denis Nikityuk added.
