Top athletes honored in Minsk

Top athletes honored in MinskMINSK, 22 December (BelTA) – The Best Athlete of the Capital winners were awarded in Minsk on 22 December.

The top ten included Alexander Volchetsky (rowing), Yekaterina Galkina (rhythmic gymnastics), Alexandra Gerasimenya (swimming), Andrei Kazusenok (sambo), Vasilisa Marzalyuk (wrestling), Vladimir Samsonov (table tennis), Nadezhda Skardino (biathlon), Gleb Solodukha (rowing), Melitina Staniouta (rhythmic gymnastics), and Ilya Chergeiko (shooting).

Representatives of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus and the sports and tourism department of Minsk City Hall also honored the athletes and coaches for the results achieved at the 31st Summer Olympic Games and the 15th Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Vice President of the National Olympic Committee Nikolai Ananyev and Minsk Mayor Andrei ShoretsMinsk Mayor Andrei Shorets thanked the athletes and coaches for their efforts to popularize sport in Belarus and in Minsk in particular. “Our country is a sports state and the athletes of Minsk have been making a great contribution,” he stressed. Andrei Shorets extended the New Year and Christmas greetings to the sports representatives and wished them beautiful victories, health, optimism and wellbeing.

Top athletes honored in MinskThe National Olympic Committee also presented the young athletes of Minsk with scholarship certificates. Winners and prize-holders of the drawings competition titled “Olympic Flame Lights Up Hearts” got presents as well.
