MOGILEV, 21 March (BelTA) – The 14th International Youth Theater Forum М@rt.contact will kick off in Mogilev on 21 March, BelTA has learned.

This year, the forum will feature a large-scale program of 23 plays from ten countries.

The theater forum will open with the production Geta My by an independent theater project (Belarus-Ukraine), Za Krapivoi Bereg by Brest Academic Drama Theater Named After Lenin Komsomol of Belarus. The official opening ceremony will be followed by Tartuffe by Masterskaya St Petersburg State Theater (Russia).

This year’s forum will feature well-known theaters as well as newcomers from Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, Poland, Israel and other countries. “The forum will present many plays based on classical works, including Albert Camus, Voltaire, and also quite a few significant contemporary productions,” said Director of the Mogilev Oblast Drama Theater Andrei Novikov.

The host of the forum, the Mogilev Oblast Drama Theater, will showcase the play Yellow Sand after Vasil Bykov’s work. The Mogilev Oblast Puppet Theater will present the premiere Candide, ou l'Optimisme (by Voltaire).

The program will include traditional master classes for young actors and a workshop of young directing. Theater critics will name the Event of the Forum and the best play following the audience’s and online voting.

First held in 2006, the forum has become one of the most important and anticipated cultural events both in Mogilev and the entire theater community of Belarus. Over the years the festival has featured over 200 plays from 21 countries. The total audience made more than 40,000 viewers. The forum was founded by the Culture Ministry of Belarus, the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee, the cultural department of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee, and the Mogilev Oblast Drama Theater.
