MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – The applications for the participation in the 12th International Student Theater Festival Teatralny Koufar will be open till 1 May, BelTA learned from the Belarusian State University (BSU), the organizer of the forum.

The 12th International Student Theater Festival Teatralny Koufar will be held from 29 November to 6 December. Over the years, the only Belarusian international festival of student theaters has become one of the most prestigious youth theater forums in Eastern Europe. Today the festival is an international platform gathering creative young people from all over the world. Teatralny Koufar is aimed at supporting the international youth festival movement and promoting student amateur art.

This year’s edition of the festival will be held under the motto “Traditions. Search. Experiment”. All the participants of the forum get diplomas and souvenir gifts. The Grand-Prix of the festival, the Big Koufar, will be traditionally awarded according to the audience voting. The performances of the competition program will be evaluated by a professional jury in such nominations as Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Directing, and Best Scenic Design. The number of competitors in the nominations can vary according to the decision of the jury and organizing committee.

The official languages of the festival are Belarusian, Russian, and English. The participants are advised to take into account the international nature of the audience and prepare English and Belarusian/Russian subtitles for their productions.

Every year the festival gathers some 15-20 theater troupes, 250 participants from different countries. Around 12,000 spectators come to see the productions by student theaters. For the eleven years since the festival was founded, representatives of more than 60 countries have taken part in it. Teatralny Koufar was awarded a silver medal and the title Brand of the Year 2011 for the high-quality organizational standards.
