Team Belarus to compete in 33 skills at WorldSkills in Russia’s Kazan

MINSK, 5 August (BelTA) – Team Belarus will compete in 33 skills at the 45th WorldSkills Championships due in Kazan, Russia on 22-27 August, Sergei Kasperovich, the head of the main department for vocational education at the Education Ministry, said at a press conference in BelTA’s press center.

Participants will demonstrate their skills in such competences as Construction and Building Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Transportation and Logistics, Social and Personal Services, Creative Arts and Fashion and also in the three new competences of the Future Skills Zone - quantum technology, industrial design and building information modeling (BIM). 

All in all, the team will be composed of 83 people, including participants, experts, interpretors, officials. Rector of the National Institute of Vocational Education Valery Golubovsky informed that Team Belarus is made of the winners of the third national competition of professional skills WorldSkills Belarus 2018. During the year the contestants were preparing for the World Championships, underwent intensive training and internships, including in foreign countries.

The program features competitions in 56 skills of WorldSkills International, and 13 skills of the Junior WorldSkills programs. Future Skills will make its debut in Kazan and will feature 24 skills. The business program will be packed as well, with the meeting of education ministers from the countries participating in the movement, the international conference “Skills for Change: Building Blocks for Impact” and WorldSkills Kazan 2019 expo.

The event in Kazan will feature more than 1,500 participants from 63 countries, about 2,000 experts, and over 2,500 volunteers.

WorldSkills is an international non-profit movement, which aims to increase the prestige of blue-collar occupations and develop vocational training through the harmonization of best practices and occupational standards across the world by organizing and holding skills excellence competitions in each country and globally.  Participants are young people under 22 (24 in some skills).

Belarus acceded to the WorldSkills International in 2014 and took part in two world championships: in Sao Paulo (Brazil, 2015) and Abu Dhabi (U.A.E., 2017) and several regional competitions.
