Student of Minsk State Regional Lyceum wins special prize of Intel ISEF

MINSK, 16 May (BelTA) – Alexei Borisevich, a student of Minsk State Regional Lyceum, has won a special prize of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) held in Phoenix, Arizona, the United States, BelTA learned from the Minsk Regional Institute for Education Development.

Alexei Borisevich was honored with a special prize (third prize) in the category Sustainable Design In Transportation. The prize was sponsored by Alcoa Foundation, one of the largest corporate foundations in the United States. The Belarusian high school student presented the design of an aircraft combining the maneuvering capabilities of a helicopter and the speed of an airplane. Alcoa Foundation provides grants for environment and education. It establishes innovative partner relations by engaging people in the effort to protect the environment and raise children to be future leaders.

Four winners of the 2016 Belarus Science and Engineering Fair that was held in February presented their projects at this year’s edition of Intel ISEF in Phoenix. Apart from Alexei Borisevich, competing in the international contest also were Ulyana Kravchenko and Anastasia Vlasovets from Minsk State Regional Lyceum and Darya Zalesskaya from Starobin Secondary School, Soligorsk District. The national stage of the contest was organized by the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee, the Minsk Regional Institute for Education Development, the administration of the Belarusian Hi-Tech Park, Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics and Intel Corporation.

Winners of the Belarus Science and Engineering Fair have been representing Belarus at the international contest in the United States since 2013. Every year Belarusian children receive diplomas and prizes from the jury, US companies and foundations.
