Sporovsky Hayfields 2018 festival to focus on healthy lifestyle

BREST, 27 July (BelTA) – The Sporovsky Hayfields environmental festival will take place in the village of Vysokoye, Beryoza District, Brest Oblast, on 11 August, BelTA learned from Director of the Sporovsky Biological Reserve Vadim Protasevich.

The centerpiece of the festival will be a manual haymaking competition that will take place in the biological reserve for the 12th time already. It will be followed by swamp football. This spectacular event will be held for the 5th time. Applications to take part in the competitions will be accepted till 1 August.

This year the event will be held under the motto “Eat healthy, be active – it is great and effective!” The festival will take place within the framework of the international technical aid project “Preventing non-communicable diseases, promoting healthy lifestyle and support to modernization of the health system in Belarus” (BELMED). The project is financed by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, the World Health Organization, United Nations Children’s Fund and the United Nations Population Fund in cooperation with the Healthcare Ministry of Belarus. The initiative was put forward by the Beryoza District Environmental Organization EcoRegion Yaselda. Its activists promote the idea of slow food and push for establishment of an active leisure and healthy food center in the Sporovsky Biological Reserve.

In this regards, the program of the festival will include master classes in cooking healthy food, tastings of Belarusian traditional dishes, table games, horse riding, an exhibition of souvenirs, and other entertainments. The festival will wrap up with a concert of a popular Belarusian singer Sasha Nemo.

The Sporovsky Hayfields environmental festival is held under the auspices of the Beryoza District Executive Committee, the Global Environmental Facility, and the Office of the European Union. The festival is designed to draw public attention to wetland conservation.
