Snow Lynx festival to gather athletes from four countries

GOMEL, 14 December (BelTA) – Young athletes from four countries will take part in the athletics festival Snow Lynx 2017 in Gomel on 15-16 December, BelTA learned from Executive Director of the Belarusian Athletics Federation Alexander Astashonok.

The competitions will be held in two age categories: athletes born in 2001-2002 and 2003-2004. Taking part in the competitions will be almost 1,000 young athletes from all the Belarusian regions and also from Lithuania, Russia and Ukraine. The program will feature competitions in running, long and high jump, shot put and racewalking. “The festival will be held for the third time. The geography of its participants expands on a regular basis, hence enhancing its importance as a sports event for the international athletics calendar,” Alexander Astashonok said.

The competitions also help in establishing friendship between sports educational institutions between different countries. “Thanks to Snow Lynx we have been able establish good contacts with counterparts from Kaluga, Ivanovo and St Petersburg. An agreement on cooperation with Lithuania has been signed this year,” said Alexander Astashonok.

The festival will include an interesting cultural program.

Winners and medalists will receive lynx statuettes.

Among the organizers of the festival is the Gomel Oblast organization of the Belarusian Athletics Federation, the Gomel Oblast Olympic Athletics Reserve Center, oblast and city executive committees.
