Slavonic Literature Dazhynki opens in Gomel

GOMEL, 1 September (BelTA) – The 11th international festival Slavonic Literature Dazhynki 2017 dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing will be running in Gomel on 1-3 September, BelTA learned from Vladimir Gavrilovich, the chairman of the Gomel Oblast Department of the Union of Writers of Belarus.

The event has brought together the members of the unions of writers of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine and the young authors of the three countries. All in all, more than 100 authors will attend the festival.

The opening ceremony of the festival will be held at the Lenin Gomel Oblast Universal Library. Before the ceremony the writers are going to attend back-to-school events on the occasion of the Knowledge Day. This will be followed by a ceremony to honor the regional and national writing contest winners. The winners of the 5th regional literary contest Orthodoxy is My Hope will be announced by the guest of honor, Bishop of Gomel and Zhlobin Stefan. The ceremony will be co-located with the presentation of the books published as a result of the joint project of the Gomel Department of the Union of Writers of Belarus and the writers from the Rostov Oblast (Russia).

The writers from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine will go to Polotsk on 2 September to participate in a large number of festive events dedicated to the Belarusian Written Language Day.

The celebration will be continued in the agro-town Berezki (Gomel District) on 3 September, during which the young authors will meet with local citizens.

The festival includes exhibitions, presentations, master classes, creative evenings and so on.

The festival Slavonic Literature Dazhynki has been held in Gomel since 2007 and is one of the main events of the regional cultural scene. The number of the participants and their geographical diversity increases annually. The festival is aimed at finding, supporting and developing young authors, popularizing the Belarusian literature and sharing experiences with Russian and Ukrainian authors.
