Slavianski Bazaar to revise song contest rules

Slavianski Bazaar to revise song contest rules

VITEBSK, 12 February (BelTA) – The program of the song contest of the International Festival of Arts Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk will be revised in 2019, Director General of the Vitebsk culture center and the festival Gleb Lapitsky said at a press conference on 12 February, BelTA has learned.

“We will skip a semifinal and proceed right to the final this year as representatives of the festival’s directorate attend every national selection,” Gleb Lapitsky said.

According to him, the contest will put more emphasis on national selections which will be held in more than 20 countries. Some countries will introduce a new format of the selection. “This year, national selections will take the form of a united national selection and will involve artists not only from a hosting country but also from other countries. For example, Riga will host the national European selection which will gather representatives of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, and other countries. The UK will run its national selection in a completely different way,” Gleb Lapitsky said. He added that such interest demonstrates the popularity of the project.

No more than 18 performers will qualify for the final. On the first day the contestants will perform any Slavic hit song accompanied by the National Academic Concert Orchestra under the baton of Mikhail Finberg. The second day will feature a world hit song accompanied by Alla Duhova’s Todes Ballet. The program of the final will also feature a concert by People’s Artist of Georgia Tamara Gverdtsiteli, who will sit on the jury, and a show by Alla Duhova’s Todes Ballet.

In 2019, the festival will be held on 8-17 July. An opening ceremony and a gala concert will take place in the Summer Amphitheater on 11 July, and a closing ceremony on 15 July. Additional events will be scheduled for 8-10 and 16-17 July. The major events of the festival will be the 28th International Song Contest Vitebsk 2019 and the 17th International Children’s Song Contest Vitebsk 2019.
