Skaryna's Little Travel Book, 16th century printing press to be featured at Minsk book fair

Skaryna's Little Travel Book, 16th century printing press to be featured at Minsk book fair

MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) – The central exposition at the Minsk International Book Fair will showcase a copy of a 16th century printing press and Francysk Skaryna's Little Travel Book issued in 1522, Belarus Deputy Information Minister Igor Buzovsky told the media, BelTA has learned.

The main events of the book forum will be traditionally held at the central stand of the Belarusian Information Ministry. "Our stand will show the connection of generations, past and future as we have a lot to be proud of. Our history and modern achievements is based on the victories and historical figures which make it possible to build something new today and to say that all this started in the Belarusian land. The printing press, which was recreated according to the 16th century drawings, and the entire original composition of the stand will take visitors to the past, into the world of the first printed books. We will display the most interesting items that attracted visitors’ attention in previous years," the deputy minister said.

The Belarusian stand is based on the project In Search of the Lost by Vladimir Likhodedov, the winner of the Spiritual Revival award. “The project is almost 15 years old. It is a series of 21 books that will be displayed at the book fair. Vladimir Likhodedov’s  project will be represented by a 16th century printing press and the original collection of postcards unmatched in the world. I believe it will be interesting to recognize the places depicted on them. Our stand will also feature rare books, newspapers, magazines, writing materials and many other things associated with book publishing," said Igor Buzovsky.

According to him, another item of attraction for many visitors will be the original book of Francysk Skaryna Little Travel Book issued in 1522. “Thanks to modern e-technologies, visitors will have an opportunity to flip through its pages and read,” the deputy minister added.

The 26th edition of the Minsk International Book Fair will be held in the Belarusian capital on 6-10 February. The event will feature more than 300 exhibitors from about 35 countries.

The organizers of the Minsk International Book Fair are the Information Ministry, Minsk City Hall and the Belarusian Writers' Union. Co-organizers are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Education Ministry, the Culture Ministry, Belkniga and Makbel book selling companies.
