MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – Belarusian tennis player Iryna Shymanovich made a winning start to the qualifying competition for the 139th Wimbledon Championships, BelTA has learned.
In the opening qualifying round, the Belarusian, who is ranked 216th in the world, defeated Dominika Salkova (No.128) of the Czech Republic in a three-set battle, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-4. The match lasted 2 hours and 40 minutes.Iryna Shymanovich will next face Belgium’s Greet Minnen (No.195).
Aliaksandra Sasnovich (world No. 124) will begin her qualifying campaign against Katy Dunne of the UK (No. 575).To advance to the main draw of Wimbledon, players must come through three qualifying rounds.
The main draw matches of the season’s 3rd Grand Slam tournament will begin on 29 June. The women’s singles final is scheduled for 11 July, the men’s championship match is scheduled for 12 July. The 2026 Wimbledon Championships will feature a record total prize fund of £62.4 million. The men’s and women’s singles champions will each receive £3.6 million. Poland’s Iga Swiatek and Italy’s Jannik Sinner won the singles titles in 2025.
