Serbia to contribute to expo to mark 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – Serbia’s original editions will be showcased at the Francysk Skorina and His Time exhibition. The exposition is being prepared by the National Library of Belarus to mark the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing, BelTA learned from the Culture Ministry of Belarus.

The National Library of Serbia will present original editions from its holdings. The agreement was reached at a meeting between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Serbia to Belarus Veljko Kovacevic and Culture Minister of Belarus Boris Svetlov on 18 May.

The Belarusian minister and the Serbian Ambassador discussed the opportunity to compile a cultural cooperation program. The Culture Ministry of Belarus suggested holding the Days of Belarusian Culture in Serbia in 2017.

Boris Svetlov welcomed the establishment of direct contacts with the Serbian cultural institutions such as the National Theater of Serbia. He also expressed gratitude to the National Library of Serbia for the intention to provide Francysk Skaryna’s original editions and announced the production of the facsimile edition of the book in 2017, which will be sent to the Serbian library as a gift.

Veljko Kovacevic gave Boris Svetlov a letter from the Minister of Culture and Information of Serbia, which expressed the willingness of Serbia to cooperate actively in the field of culture. An example of such cooperation is the interaction between the national theaters of the two countries.

Cooperation in culture between Belarus and Serbia relies on an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in education, culture and sport signed in Minsk in 1996, and a program of cooperation in culture and art between the Serbian Ministry of Culture and Information and the Belarusian Culture Ministry signed in the Belarusian capital in 2012.
