MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) – A monument to People's Poet of Belarus Yanka Kupala was unveiled on the grounds of Beijing Foreign Studies University on 8 January, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in China.

Taking part in the inauguration ceremony were Ambassador of Belarus to China Kirill Rudy, Director of the National Art Museum of China and author of the monument Wu Weishan, the university administration, representatives of China’s government bodies, ambassadors, senior officials of the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and journalists.

The ceremony was one in a series of events to cap off the Year of Belarus’ Education in China. “The unveiling of the monument to Yanka Kupala reflects the truly friendly relations between Belarus and China, sincere interest and respect of the Chinese people for Belarusian culture and history,” the embassy noted.

Monuments to Belarusian authors were also put up in other Chinese cities: to Yakub Kolas in Tianjin and to Yanka Kupala in Xian.
